Housing providers, including public housing authorities, redevelopment offices, nonprofit organizations and centers for independent living have the heavy responsibility of delivering safe and decent housing. This responsibility includes meeting the regulatory and statutory requirements of the federal, state and local governments.

From time-to-time housing providers need advice, training and technical assistance. Sometimes assistance from government offices is inconsistent and untimely. ACA has the expertise to assist housing providers with the following responsibilities:

  • PHA's must complete and update a self-evaluation, needs assessment and transition plan in order to comply with Section 504 and the ADA. ACA can assist by reviewing your program (handbooks, policy statements, tenant notices, etc.) to ensure compliance and by conducting a needs assessment and transition plan.
  • Redevelopment authorities must demonstrate how they are affirmatively furthering fair housing. ACA has worked with state and local governments with regard to developing and implementing their plan.
  • CIL's help people with disabilities locate housing and serve as a partner with housing providers to ensure housing opportunities and compliance with accessibility and nondiscrimination requirements/regulations. ACA offers training, technical assistance, publications and our FAST KIT® System that can make CIL's job easier.
  • An increasing number of PHA's are participating in the Supportive Housing Program (PATH) in an effort to move people with disabilities into community-based housing. Evaluating the housing stock/opportunity involves assessing accessibility and the specific needs of those moving into the community. ACA has developed a FAST KIT® System which includes a checklist for needs beyond physical accessibility to assist PHA's and CIL's. ACA also conducts training for this type of program
  • The U.S. Access Board will be issuing a new Minimum Guidelines and Requirements for Accessible Design (MGRAD) which will replace the current federal accessibility standard (UFAS). ACA provides a technical assistance and training program based on these requirements.

Check our training, publications, and FAST KIT® pages for more information. Contact ACA with your questions, a copy of our Corporate Experience, or for a list of references. info@ardinger.org
